Daily housekeeping is included in your stay, with the exception of Sundays.  Beds will be made, towels changed out (if necessary), floors will be swept and mopped, kitchen will be cleaned and any laundry that is placed in the hampers (located in each bedroom) will be washed and folded.  The laundry will not be sorted, but will be folded and placed in a pile for the guests to go through.

Any of the guests items that are NOT found in the hampers will not be washed.

Flor works each day from 8am-4pm except Sundays.  She only speaks Spanish.  If you need to communicate anything to her and you do not speak Spanish, contact Hazel to translate for you.

Maintaining The Villa Mariana is a full-time job for our groundskeeper (Juan), from repairing wood planks on the deck to changing light bulbs to keeping walkways swept and clear of rainforest debris.  Juan will happily open the glass doors each morning and close them when you go out.  He is at the villa six days per week from 7am-6pm and is off on Thursdays.  He only speaks Spanish.  If you need to communicate anything to him and you do not speak Spanish, contact Hazel to translate for you.

If Juan sees any wildlife around the outside of the home, he will gladly point it out to you.

Once you've booked with us, the next step is to put you in touch with our concierge to begin planning your visit.  She will forward all excursion information to you via email, which will assist you in deciding which excursions will work best for you and your group.

There are many wonderful options to choose from in the area, including waterfall tours, ATV tours, private catamarans, fishing, ziplining tours, whitewater rafting and tubing. Our concierge will also be happy to schedule massage therapists to come to the house to perform massages if you would like. Be sure to save some time for Manuel Antonio National Park and visiting some of the local beaches!

Everything from lost luggage from your airline company to phone numbers to the local clinics and's all in our "The Villa Mariana Guest Book" at the houses.

A first aid kit and fire extinguishers are available in both houses as well.

Please contact the concierge for any major emergencies.

If you have a car, we recommend BM Supermercado.  It is 2.5 miles from the house and has the best and largest selection of products.  Their prices are also the least expensive for quality products that we have found in the area.

If you do not have a car, there are a couple of options:

1) Ask Hazel to pre-stock the house for you with everything that you may need prior to your check-in.

2) The local supermarket, Super Joseth, will deliver groceries to the house as you need them. The phone number is listed on the wall in the kitchen. Please make sure that someone is in the kitchen or dining room during delivery to open the electronic gate once the delivery representative rings the bell. You can pay in US$ or Colones, just keep in mind that you'll get Colones in change if you pay in US$.

Want to have a completely turnkey vacation and not worry so much about cars?  Book the shuttle service (as mentioned under Transportation Service) and then ask the concierge to contact Adriana at Hertz Rental Car in Manuel Antonio.  She will coordinate bringing a Hertz rental car to the house when you need it.  You can sign the papers while sitting at the dining room table in your bathing suit!  Why waste your time in a rental car office?

Once you no longer need the car, Adriana's team will come back to the house to pick it up.

If you choose to rent at the airport in SJO and drive, feel free to take a look online at all of the rental car companies close to the airport.

Transportation Service

If you plan on renting a car at the airport and driving on your own down to the villa, we recommend the following:

Step 1) Prior to your trip, go to  Type in Juan Santamaria International Airport.  Get directions to the destination "The Villa Mariana" or "The Villa Mariana Casita".  Both are listed in Google Maps.  Print out these directions.

Step 2) Prior to your trip, check to make sure that at least one guest in your group has international cell phone service.  That person should download the Waze app on their phone and create an account.

Step 3) Upon arrival and once in the rental car, type in "Villa Mariana" or "618, Quepos" in to the destination. Once in the town of Quepos, Waze will tell you to go the shortest route, but beware that the road for the short route is really narrow.  It's best to go 618 to Manuel Antonio (the main road) once in Quepos.

The Villa Mariana is located on the Pacific side of Costa Rica between Quepos and Manuel Antonio in Puntarenas, about 90 miles from the SJO airport.  As the owners, we highly recommend using the van service, which takes about 2 to 2.5 hours door to door from the airport to the house.  Our transportation service could not make the process easier!

Feel free to check out the NatureAir flight option from SJO to Quepos as well, but consider the baggage limitations on these small planes, as well as the taxi charges from the Quepos airport to the house.

Contact your concierge to book transportation.

To maintain both pools on the property, we have pool service on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays each week.  Stevin, who owns the pool service company, will typically arrive before 9:30am on each of those mornings.

The swimming pools must be maintained three times per week, regardless if clients are using them or not.  If you require more privacy and do not want the pool service to disturb you in the mornings, please be sure to let the concierge know (please give at least one day notice so she has time to contact Stevin).
