As you prepare for your unforgettable stay at The Villa Mariana, we want to ensure your arrival at Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO) is as smooth as possible. Here's what you need to know about the navigating the SJO airport, immigration and the customs process. Upon landing, you'll make your way to the immigration area. Be sure to have your valid passport (not expiring within 1 day, preferrably more time ), proof of onward travel (such as a return ticket), and information about your first destination in Costa Rica readily available. The immigration officer will ask for your name, occupation, length of stay, and first destination in Costa Rica. Be sure to tell them that you are visiting a vacation home in Manuel Antonio named The Villa Mariana. They'll also verify that you have plans to exit the country within 180 days. Families can go through immigration together, which can be a relief after a long flight. It's important to note that passport stamps may vary, and some officers might not stamp your passport at all. If you're planning to rent a car, it's a good idea to request a stamp showing your visa duration. Remember, the length of your visa is at the discretion of the immigration officer. After clearing immigration, you'll proceed to baggage claim and customs. Here, you'll need to place ALL your luggage, including backpacks and carry-ons, on the scanner. The only exception is for duty-free purchases made AFTER immigration. Be prepared for the possibility of a random luggage inspection, though this is not common for most travelers.
While waiting, you might appreciate knowing that there are bathrooms available in the immigration area, with four stalls and air conditioning – a welcome comfort after your journey. Between immigration and baggage claim, there is a 24/7 duty-free store where you can purchase alcohol and other items, but keep in mind that the selection may vary depending on the time that your flight lands and if there are many other flights landing at the same time.
As you make your way through SJO, remember to stay calm and have your documents ready. Soon enough, you'll be on your way to The Villa Mariana, where luxury and relaxation await. If you booked a shuttle through our concierge, your name will be on a name card outside of the airport. The driver will be there, ready to whisk you away to paradise.
We look forward to welcoming you!
